1969년 10월 5일 방영하기 시작한 영국 BBC 텔레비젼 코미디 쇼 그리고 그 출연자들을 일컫는 말.

옥스포드와 켐브리지에서 만난 멤버들과 뉴욕에서 온 테리 길리엄이 합류하여 코미디 쇼를 만들기 시작하여 [Monty Python's Flying Circus]로 널리 알려지게된다. 1974년까지 4시즌 동안 45개의 에피소드가 방송되었으며 이후 극영화, 음반, 컴퓨터 게임, 책등도 발매되었다.

Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin등이 극본을 쓰고 출연하였으며 그들이 코미디쇼에 미친 영향은 음악에서 비틀즈가 끼친 것과 맞먹는다고 한다.

참고로 컴퓨터 프로그램 언어 '파이썬'은 제작자가 이 '몬티 파이썬'의 열렬한 팬이어서 지은 이름이라고 한다.
